Santa brought James, Percy and Toby for Christmas to match the Thomas set that my 3 year old got for his birthday. Santa actually had to hunt for Toby on E-bay as it was sold out everywhere! We are very happy with all 4 of them.
Great choice for a 2 year old on up by Melissa
My 2 year old just got this as a gift from his aunt, and he adores it. Not only does it fit and work with his Duplo blocks, but it is much easier for him to manipulate than his wooden Thomas set. He adores Thomas, and while I wish this set clearly stated that it is an add-on set (now I have to go and get him some more track!), he has had a lot of fun putting the trains together and pushing them under the bridge.
I love the open, creative play - the fact that it doesn’t make sounds, flash lights, or require batteries. He loves having a larger choo-choo that is easy for him to play with on his own. We will definately be getting more Thomas Duplo trains in the near future!
Hours of fun for little lego fans! by Stephanie C. Doll
My 4 year old son got this for his birthday, and even though he doesn’t have the whole Thomas set with all the tracks he’s had lots of fun with it. He drives it all over the house without any tracks just like he does with his matchbox cars. He has used some of his other Duplos with it and built train stations, and has even incorporated it into his Duplo castle. The knights have suddenly advanced quickly in the transportation department as they now don’t have to rely only on their four legged and winged friends to carry them.
Granted having all the tracks etc. would probably excite him, so he’ll get them for Christmas, but even on it’s own this is a fantastic toy.
The pieces are very durable and easy for little hands to put together and most importantly of course to take apart. It seems that my son always likes the toys he can take apart and put back together the best. Another big plus for all you mom’s out there, they’re easy to clean. Unlike regular lego parts these are easy to just run under some water or wipe off because there’s actually enough of it to hold on to.
Even my 5 year old daughter who’s a girly girl loves to play with this toy. This is a great toy.
What a Fun Toy — a Review of Lego James by Pam T
I have to start off by being honest. We don’t have Lego James *yet*. He is still waiting to join Lego Percy on the tracks, but I wanted to tell you how much fun Lego Percy is, and that I am sure Lego James will be just as great.
First, the Thomas Lego trains are cute. They are a very good size for small hands, and although they don’t come with very much track, it doesn’t seem to matter at all.
My son (3.5 yo) spends all of his time playing with his Lego Percy on the floor, combining his new friend with some huge coach constructions that he has made. (Really some of them are huge–LOL)
He does this by virtue of the fact that the duplo size lego wheeled vehicles can be pulled by Lego James and Lego Percy. So not only does he get to play with his favorite Steamies, but he also gets to make things (sheds, even Cranky!) with his duplo legos. [Mega-bloks work too)
Five Stars. Cute educational toys that allow for lots of imaginative play. My one suggestion would be to buy other Legos - particularly some with wheels that can be the bases for coaches- if you don’t already own some. This way Lego James will be at his educational best. Your child can build all sorts of friends and equipment.
Note: Our Lego collection was 3099. I couldn’t find it on Amazon but I think the Lego Duplo 140-pc. Bulk Tub (5352) ($15) has the wheeled base vehicles that connect to the Thomas and Friends Lego trains.
